BiotroNiS is an innovative network in Saxony that connects researchers, clinicians, companies, and industry partners working at the interface of biology and electronics. The network focuses on bioelectronics — an interdisciplinary field that combines materials science, micro- and nanoelectronics, bioengineering, and life sciences to create functional interfaces between cells, tissues, organs, and electronic systems. BiotroNiS supports the development of new materials, devices, and systems with applications in medicine, biotechnology, diagnostics, and sensing.
A central goal of BiotroNiS is to strengthen collaboration between science and industry. By bringing together expertise from materials science, electronics, biotechnology, medical technology, and microsystems engineering, the network helps to identify new project ideas, accelerate knowledge transfer, and create opportunities for joint research and innovation.
One of our main priorities is to increase the visibility of the bioelectronics community in Saxony and, in the future, across Germany. For this purpose, BiotroNiS regularly organizes in-person workshops, technology transfer events, networking formats, and digital outreach activities. These activities create spaces where researchers, companies, start-ups, and other stakeholders can meet, exchange ideas, and develop future collaborations.
Supported by ERDF funding, BiotroNiS is building a dynamic collaborative platform to pool expertise, identify disruptive innovation potential, and foster strategic partnerships in the emerging field of bioelectronics.
